Below: .Historic marker, and a location we've always wanted to visit.

At Iron Pont the original CPRR crosses the California Trail, it was here

that James Reed (of the Donner Party) killed John Snyder, who's buried nearby.

While others think differently..."I don't believe for a minute that Reed killed Snyder at Iron Point.

Believe that it happened at Gravelly Ford, as that is where Snyder was buried.

His head stone still there in 1921, as found by the US Army." gig

On the hill. To quote from Captain Charles E. Davis, USA, witnessed by Emile Cote, dated 1927:

"This paper pertains to to the grave 25 feet north. It is the grave of John Snyder, young member of the Reed-Donner Party bound for Sutter's Fort and buried here in 1846." Remember that Snyder was beating his oxen UP HILL on the North side of the Humboldt, the side away from the SPRR grade. From a book entitled "Wake of the Prairie Schooners" by Irene Paden. The area they are talking of is near Maidens Grave.

railbed just east of Carlin, NV., where it winds through the hills next to I-80.

Later paved and used as Highway-40.
