For Immediate Release:
2016 CSRG Charity Challenge Races, Sonoma Racewway, Oct 1/2

West Coast British Racing WINS Vintage MG Racers "All MG Race" on Sunday Oct 2nd, 2016.

Starting from the 2nd row, Michael Green of Livermore, California in his 1964 MGB racer dominated the wet conditions on Sunday taking the lead seconds after the green flag was waved to win the Group-9 All MG sports car race.

The "All MG" race was promoted by Vintage MG Racers and run with the Classis Sports Racing Group of Northern California at Sonoma Raceway during the CSRG's Charity Challenge weekend. This special race is made up of anything MG, and as you'll see our winners initials are such as well! Michael's father, Dickie Green, joined the Works MG/BMC racing team for the 1955/56 season. Dickie helped build & test EX182's and took them to LeMans in 1955. The EX182 would become the MGA. In later years Mr Green would be Service Manager for the Western US at British Leyland, based in Brisbane, CA.  Our winner Michael Green, is a long time multi championship winning motorcycle racer (1972-2008) in both motocross & road racing, having won numerous races at Sonoma on two-wheels!

This weekend Michael had planned on racing his 'MGB GT Fia car, but last minute troubles with the overdrive (slipping) left the car at West Coast British in Livermore, and saw the roadster loaded up instead. This car was acquired by WCBR in 2007from the east coast, having raced nearly its whole life in SCCA and other clubs, even winning a few along the way. WCBR restored the car to it's latest configuration (SCCA safety) and it de it's debut in April 2010 at Thunderhill, CA.

Practice and Qualifying went well for the WCBR-MGB getting it 4th fastest in the final qualifying session. An hour of so before Sunday's All MG Race the light rain arrived, and dribbled on and off right up to race time. As the cars lined up for the warm-up laps it was noted that some of the field chose not to participate in the wet conditions... it should be said that one or two changed their mind late and came out as the green flag was dropped. Michael Green pasted the front row just past Start-Finish to take the lead going into turn-1, where he immediately signaled the car behind to slow down as he searched for grip. Lap after lap the field sorted itself out and our Michael Green pulled out a gap on the field, going quicker every lap... "Grip was better and better as we went on", said Green after the race, and Continued...  "Turn-10 never came in, it was just too slick and required tip-toe driving."   "With two laps to go the sky opened up on  the hill and turn-2 all the way to 7 was soaked, I spun exiting T3 and found more grip in the dirt than on the blacktop! From there it was try and get it to the finish without spinning again."  Michael would finish with just show of 2-minute lead.   Mike Silverman of Vintage Motorsports finished Second in a lovely MGA, the two Michal's had a few giggles after the race!

Later in the day, Michael would take top honors in the Group-2 sports car race as well... and it should be said,  there were some heavy hitters in this race!

Oct 2017: WCBR MGB Wins two "FP" SCCA Races at ThunderHill...

March 2018: We are getting both the GT and roadster ready for numerous outings...
